As hardware brands prioritize implementing realistic vibrotactile haptics into their product and device roadmaps, designers and engineers face a new series of challenges. Sophisticated haptic systems can include both wideband actuators and digital signal processing (DSP), which adds complexity compared to existing, more basic solutions.
Up until now, there has been limited practical guidance for integrating sophisticated haptics into hardware platforms. The recent VT-1 specification proposal published on our Resources page, defined the quality level required by haptic system components. The team has expanded on this set of factors into a best practices guide for product design, hardware and software implementation, testing and calibration.
To help mitigate risk and ensure an efficient and successful integration, we recommend starting with a few best practices tested extensively over several years.
